(The Sign Chef recommends the different materials that can be used for your new sign—and which one is ideal for specific conditions.)
Recently we looked at the list of indoor sign materials. Today we are serving up the main course, featuring outdoor sign materials. How do you choose the right one? Check out my menu below to select the perfect entrée for your tastes.
- Aluminum Metal Signs – Metal signs have been a popular choice for many years, and today’s options are much-improved over previous generations. These are strong, durable and have a high-gloss factory-painted finish.
- Armour-Wood Metalized Signs – One of the strongest materials out there for signs. With a solid wood core sandwiched between 2sheets of aluminum armour plating, this sign material is can take high impact and is weather resistant.
- Dibond Metal Signs – Have the best of both worlds, aluminum and plastic. To make Dibond, two sheets of painted aluminum are factory bonded to a solid plastic core. Available in a broad range of colors, and these signs are lightweight like plastic and as strong as aluminum.
- Banners – Outdoor vinyl banner signs stand up to the elements well. Size for size, custom banners are the least expensive, are lightweight and super easy to hang almost anywhere.
- Coroplast Corrugated Plastic Signs – These ultra lightweight signs are waterproof and are commonly used for yard signs, such as for real estate, elections, and more.
- DuraWood Signs—Signs have been made of wood for hundreds of years. With the latest technology, you don’t need to worry anymore about the primary downside of wood—rotting. When choosing a wooden sign, be sure to inquire about a warranty. For example, DuraWood outdoor signs are rated to last for ten years.
- Vinyl Graphics and Vehicle Letters – Yes, in the old days we used to hand letter company cars, but now, vinyl is the material of choice for over 94% of all vehicle signs. Vinyl can be applied to any car, trailor, van, truck, SUV or boat.
