The oldest mens shirts mercantile in the United States is Brooks Brothers. It was a family business founded in 1818. This privately owned company is owned by Retail Brand Alliance, which is a division of Luxottica which features Apparels for women rendered in Madisson Avenue, Manhattan New York.
They are recognized during the early times by 1859 for introducing ready-to-wear suit to American customers. Brooks Brothers tailored many distinctive uniforms in the late 19th century forNew York Troops all trough the Civil War and for elite regiments of New York National Guard.
People these days, still consider Brooks Brothers as a traditional clothier. They have contributed much on the many novelty clothing in the marketplace. John E. Brooks, the grandson of Henry Sandy Brooks invented the collar button-down dress shirts. He had gotten this design after considering non-flapping collars on English polo players.
Brooks Brothers has already dressed and even done several custom made shirts for prominent and less famous group of people for generations. Political leaders such as the US President Barack Obama wore a Brooks Brothers coat, and scarf and even his gloves throughout his inaugural ceremony in 2009. Aside from Obama, there are many other presidents who have worn a Brooks Brothers clothes like Ulysses S. Grant during her 2nd inaugural ceremony as US President, Herbert Hoover, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Gerald Fold and Bill Clinton.
There are also some Hollywood celebrities in 1940’s who obtained special attention all through that year at Brooks Brothers Manhattan namely Clarke Gable, Kimmy Stewart, Barry Fitzgerald, Nuna Foch, and Maria Riva. There are also Hollywood personalities today such as Ben Afleck used in Pearl Harbor Film, Jean Hackman in The Royal Tenenbaums, and Will Smith in Ali.
After all those years in business clothes industry, Brooks Brothers still remains established in giving grade of excellence clothes for the people.
